San Franciscan

Previous Entry San Franciscan Apr. 11th, 2004 @ 04:26 am Next Entry
Tonight was one of the most interesting nights I've had thus far.

First, I go to meet a friend at a bar, The Redwood Room. He says it's "a small pocket of New York, in San Francisco". Good for him. So I go to meet him, and end up spending the entire time standing in line to get in the bar. Joy.

Suddenly he comes out with his group of friends, and an agreement is reached to swing by a houseparty on the way to The Stud for Sugar. (I know... pretty par for the course thus far). We swing by and grab a drink or two. Nothing exciting... not many attractive people... no big deal. We decide to head on to the Stud.

Naturally at the club is where the fun begins, with active conversations, lots of drinking.... over all, a pretty good time.

Suddenly everyone's leaving. "Where are they going?!" "The Power Exchange." "WTF??" "I dunno." "Okay... well... I've never been there before [insert drunken slurs here]... I wanna go!" .

So we head to the power exchange, and go inside. I end up making out with "friend" for a brief moment... find out that so-n-so are going at it in a tent... (mind you, this IS my first time here) and there's NO one of interest for me to really play with. "Friend" is nice, but he's "FRIEND"... I'm so not into going there. It's a weird place tho.... blacklights and neon everywhere... catacombs wandering off to nowhere... rooms that play porn continuously... lots of unattractive people looking for something they can't find elsewhere. I'm done.

We can't find our people, so we head out (someone else and I). This evolves into a goose chase for my car, which fails. We tell the cabbie to just take us to his place... we do a mapquest for my car, and I walk the distances up sixth to harrison. Along the way, I suddenly re-find the houseparty we originally stopped in to still going (sans alcohol)... swing in and say hello to no one interesting, then head off to the car.... Hop in my car and head toward home (thank you GPS/Navi system).

On the way, I decide to stop on Market across from The Cafe, about 2 blocks from home, because A) There's parking at 3:30am, and B) I'm hungry, and swing into Orphan Andy's. Grab a burger w/ Fries, pay, and drive myself home to write a LJ entry.

For the first time, I kinda feel like a San Franciscan. I went through a weird ordeal with friends... I went to the Power Exchange... I lost my car... I found my car... I stopped for food at an ungodly hour... Walked away empty handed.. but all in all, I feel somewhat empowered. I controlled my evening. Yes, I got a little drunk (good for me), but I didn't do anything I regret, saw some friends, got exposure to a new experience (without compromising myself) and all in all had an incredibly interesting night.

Next time I'm saying "girls" so I can get into the straight area of Power Exchange (if there's ever a next time). Rumor has it there were some incredibly hot guys going at it on some girls. Dammit... I wish I'd known that going in. :P

Time for JO (to make up for what I didn't get, though I paid for it) and call it a night.... :)

Since when is that hole the mark of a true San Franciscan? I thought the real SF natives shun that place.

It was more the idea of the whirlwind tour around different venues, concluding with losing my car, walking to my car to find my car at 3am, and stopping at Andy's on the way home (which didn't require that I leave the city). I didn't enjoy the "hole"... it was the feeling I had about my experience... not the events that the feeling was composed of :)
