About The French Laundry

Take every single incredibly yummy food item you can think of... Truffles... Lobster... Caviar... Oysters... Fois Gras... Chocolate... Butter... Better-Than-Kobe... mix them with service that beats every expectation (and resets most of them) and the most incredible person to talk to and enjoy it with, who appreciates the wine, the food, the quality, the company... and you have The French Laundry. This lifetime's pick of BEST RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD. :)

I think in total it was something like 13 different courses, including things that they just do for everyone (like the "oysters and pearls"... OMG so good), and the things that we inserted ("If there's something on the other menu that we want, such as the fois gras, I'm sure we can accomidate your request"). It was absolutely perfect in every possible way... everything I'd hoped for or could have.

Gotta go again. Gotta. Gotta. Gottagottagotta... it's just too good to let something like that exist in a lifetime and only do it once. HOLY CRAP was that incredible.

For those of us in the hinterlands . . .

The French Laundry is in The City?

I took a class many years ago when I was at Cal, a class in California history. The prof was a guy named Bean as I recall and it was a great class on California history, 1800 - 1920 or so. We spent a great deal of time looking at San Francisco history and politics and the term "French Restaurant" had an entirely different meaning back then.

One could get things 'cleaned up and taken care of' but not in the same fashion as a laundry!

The French Laundry is in Yountville, just north of Napa. Basically, if Napa makes wine, and wine makes money, Yountville is where all of the money goes. Yountville is has the highest concentration of extreme high-end everything in the Napa valley. It's where all of the money from the wine industry gets spent. ;)

Re: For those of us in the hinterlands . . .

One could easily make this the ultimate destinantion of a Napa / Sonoma weekend.

When I was in school it was so cool - and a cheap date - to go up there. I had a Fraternity brother whose family was in the wine business. He really knew that right places and people and it was always a treat to go up there with him.

And two of my Brothers proposed to their girlfriends up there on one of those trips - and they are all still married - to each other - twenty five+ years later!!

Alas, I was not quite as fond of my date on that trip.
